The Special Ed PTO, in partnership with the SOMSD Department of Special Services, will host a community event
Transition Workshop – From Adolescence to Adulthood
Tuesday, April 26 7:00 pm – 9:00
Please joins us for an evening workshop with professionals who specialize in transitioning from adolescence to adulthood. Representatives from Columbia High School, the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services, and the Division of Developmental Disabilities’ Planning for Adult Live on Person Centered Planning and Self Directed Services by Community Access Unlimited will present information and answer questions.  This event is designed for parents and caregivers of children who have intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. We will discuss how to start the transition process, and when is the best time to start it.  It’s earlier than you think! We will hear presentations from our guest speakers, followed by break away groups.

Sensory-Friendly Productions

William Paterson University’s Office of Performing Arts will present another installment of its sensory friendly productions for children on the autism spectrum. In an effort to provide a supportive, autism-friendly environment for audience members, production lights and sounds will be adjusted and various calming areas will be stationed throughout the theater’s lobby, if any guest needs to leave during the performance.  Also, a social narrative packet and study guide will be emailed to teachers once tickets have been reserved. Both shows are 10:00 a.m. matinees, $8 general admission – please reserve tickets in advance.
